FAQ
Questions, answered.
Packages, sound, travel and the boring bit, in plain words. If yours isn't here, ask us.
What's included?
Three packages, all with live music, your own sound technician and all the gear. Cocktails + Dinner covers canapés and pre-dinner drinks, then dinner, with mics for the speeches. The Party is your first dance played live, then dance-floor sets after dinner. The Whole Night is both, with one musician from canapés to the last dance, for less than booking them separately. See pricing.
Do you play ceremonies?
No, neither the music nor the sound. We look after the reception, from canapés to the last dance, with the speeches included, and leave the ceremony to people who do only that. We’ll happily recommend wonderful people for it.
Can you play our first dance?
Yes, live. It’s part of The Party and The Whole Night. Tell us the song when you find your match, and your musician will learn it for you if it isn’t already in their set.
Can one musician really fill a dance floor?
Yes. Our musicians play the party with backing tracks and live looping through a proper PA, so it sounds full, not like a quiet acoustic set turned up. If your heart is set on a full band or a DJ for the late hours, we’ll point you to our favourite DJs and bands.
Do you supply the sound?
Always. Every booking includes a sound technician and all the gear, including wireless mics for the speeches.
What does the sound tech actually do?
Everything that isn’t the music. They set the level so canapés sound lovely and dinner stays easy to talk over, hand a wireless mic to each speaker and make sure every toast is heard, bring the room up for your first dance, and keep a playlist going between sets. Your musician gets to concentrate on playing, and you two get to forget the sound exists.
What if our canapés are out on a lawn with no power?
No problem. We bring our own quiet power.
Do you travel outside your usual areas?
Happily. Our core zones are Brisbane and Moreton Bay, the Gold Coast and Tweed, the Sunshine Coast and Noosa, the Scenic Rim and Hinterland, Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley, and the Northern Rivers. Beyond those, travel is quoted on request, and you’ll see the figure before you commit to anything.
How far ahead do we need to book?
At least two weeks before your event. The balance is charged 14 days out, so anything sooner than that is a little too close for us to look after properly. Popular Saturdays in spring and autumn go early, so if you’ve got a date, it’s worth checking now.
Can we request songs?
Of course. Once you’ve picked your musician, just before you lock in your date, you can tell us your one must-play (or must-never-play) song, and your musician will learn a song of your choice for your first dance if you’d like one. You can talk through the rest with them once you’re booked.
Is the retainer refundable?
No. The retainer locks your date for your musician, your sound tech and the gear, and from that moment they turn other bookings away. It comes off your total, so it isn’t an extra cost, but it can’t be refunded if you cancel. We say this before you pay, and it’s in your agreement too.
When is the balance charged?
Automatically, 14 days before your event, to the card you used for the retainer. We email you 21 days before your event with the amount and the date, so there are no surprises.
What if our card doesn't go through?
It happens: cards expire, banks get cautious. If the balance doesn’t go through, we’ll email you about a small hiccup with a secure link to update your card or approve the payment. We’ll sort it out together, well before the day.
Our event is in Northern NSW. Whose time zone are you using?
Yours. Every time we show you is in local time where your event is, labelled AEST or AEDT, so a Byron Bay wedding in summer reads in daylight saving time even if your musician lives in Brisbane. No mental arithmetic required.
Do you do corporate events?
Yes, and we love them. The Event Session is three hours of live music, paced from background to feature sets, for $2,600 inc GST. The Long Session adds a fourth hour for long lunches and late finishes, for $3,200 inc GST. Both come with your own sound technician and a wireless handheld for a welcome and a few short speeches. See the event packages, or tell us what you’re planning.
What do you need from our venue?
A short hospitality rider: a meal for the artist and tech, water and soft drinks, a quiet space between sets, parking close to setup, and the final run-of-show a week before. Most venues already do all of this, and if there’s no power where the canapés are, we bring our own. Read the full rider.
How do you choose your artists?
Carefully, and in person. Every musician on the roster has been heard live, vetted for reliability and professionalism, and chosen by hand. We keep the roster small on purpose: we’d rather introduce you to two people we trust than two hundred we don’t.
